The democratization of information is the real interesting thing about this, said Bob Rosenschein, CEO of GuruNet, ... They're messy and noisy and they're not always accurate, but they're people talking about real subjects; and in that manner they have tremendous statistical interest when they get to scale. There's a wisdom of the crowd. The most interesting applications are before us. PS. Sorry for so many nerd updates lately. 2

Of course it's powerful--masses always are. But what bothers me about the blogging revolution and all the rest of it is that the emphasis is on quantity over quality (true even for "niche" blogs in my opinion). It’s basically about getting attention from a lot of people—striving for popularity on a large scale. And the result? Taking a little bit from this source and that source and that source (and on and on and on) is supposed to lead to a “comprehensive wisdom” greater than the wisdom of the individual? Yes, by all means, let’s all stop trying to deepen ourselves…let’s aim for popularity and let the resulting GIGANTIC INTERNET ROBOT do all our deep thinking for us. And what the heck is this "wisdom of the crowd” Rosenchein mentions? WISDOM in CROWDS? Am I missing something? Where's the depth? We're all developing ADD! I'm overreacting! 12:17 AM Post a Comment |

![]() Hi, I'm Zach. I grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana and graduated from Wake Forest. After college, I moved to Manhattan to get serious about a company I ran with friends. We sold it to Barry Diller's InterActiveCorp in 2006. I just wrapped up with a project I co-founded called Vimeo and left CV to focus on being a twenty-five year old. I have another blog called Copy and Taste, where I post about learning to cook. I live in Brooklyn now.
