![]() 20050722 Controversy Alert!
Our very popular Busted Tee, New Mexico: Cleaner Than Regular Mexico, is causing a huge stir for Urban Outfitters, the retail giant who buys the shirt from us wholesale.Basically, the Anti-Defamation League and several other organizations representing Latinos and/or Civil Rights are asking the retailer to stop selling shirt. Also, several petitions have popped up online encouraging people to boycott Urban Outiftters. Albuquerque's ABC affiliate, KOAT, even took the shirt to the streets to get New Mexicans' reactions. Our name, unfortunately, has never been mentioned. 10

I suppose this wouldn't be the first time Urban Outfitters would have controversy knocking at its door. I remember they were selling a questionable version of Monopoly a few years in which Boardwalk, Park Place and Ventnor Avenue were replaced with racial stereotypes. Or something to that effect. Love your tees. 9:36 AM the modest guy said... I don't understand why people take things so seriously. Like Janet Jackson's "woredrobe malfunction." Why do parent's care if their child see's a boob. Chance's are the kid has seen a boob before and just has to look at his or her own chest. And I say his because a lot of American boys are so fat they have man boobies. =) The grand theft auto sex scene.. total over reaction. Damn, I'm going to save the rest of my rant for my own blog. My blog is http://themodestguy.com/ . 12:19 PM the modest guy said... *wardrobe -- i kinda spelled whoredrobe by accident =) 12:21 PM the modest guy said... i found an article on the t-shirt on the front of MSN!!!! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8670263/ i bet the t-shirts are selling so well right now. i should go call that TV show, "a current affair," and be like i hate this t-shirt by bustedtees.com and then maybe they will make a short story about it. hah.. 12:31 PM said... Yeah, I used to wear that shirt when we were in San Diego, but I always felt kind of sketch about it. It's like wearing the "Jersey Girls," Tee in New York. You're just asking for an ass-beating from some Bridge & Tunnel Guy. -Rob 3:40 PM OrlandoCatastrophic said... You should do a European version of the Mexico/New Mexico t-shirt. We're much less PC over here... 10:41 AM Wynne said... i guess that's why you guys call them "busted" tees... heh heh. sorry. 3:48 PM Post a Comment |
