AirTroductions is a dating service that connects people who coincidentally plan to take the same flight.

"Oh, you're excited about researching Indiana's settlement history too? We should totally sit next to each other on our flight to Reykjavik!"

I am a propenent of this concept -- but I am not sure it will work in this form, where you have to arrange the rendez-vous yourself. Instead, what if airlines prescreened you during check-in and offered you the opportunity to sit next to people who matched your interests or desires? Wouldn't you pay $20 more to share a flight with someone you were attacted to? Forget satellite television at every seat -- I would settle for a lovely girl accompanied with an intriguing conversation.

So when's your next flight then? Bow-chika-bow-wow!

Yes yes yes. The shortest flight that I ever had was Atlanta to Amsterdam sitting next to a young 18 year-old Saudi girl. Great idea, Zach, and a great value-add for the airlines.

I disagree, but perhaps it comes down to Portland life vs. New York life (again), or a difference in levels of desire to meet someone who "matches my interests." I don't feel the need to pay money to increase my chances of meeting someone interesting. I think chance is a pretty cool phenomenon, actually.

I've thought about this idea before; it's pretty intriguing to see what happens when the laws of travel and dating intersect. Here's the catch: what happens when the conversation awkwardly fizzles 20 minutes into the packed transatlantic flight? Or when the person seated next to you isn't quite as charming and attractive as her profile may have suggested?

Yes, and then you order four more cocktails and decide that you might as well chat it up and see if you can convince this girl to head to the lav with you. After all, you did pay $20 for this date did you not?

It sounds like a subdued form of prostituion.

Marg, you've obviously had more exciting flights than me.

Hi, I'm Zach. I grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana and graduated from Wake Forest. After college, I moved to Manhattan to get serious about a company I ran with friends. We sold it to Barry Diller's InterActiveCorp in 2006. I just wrapped up with a project I co-founded called Vimeo and left CV to focus on being a twenty-five year old.

I have another blog called Copy and Taste, where I post about learning to cook.

I live in Brooklyn now.
