Space Update

This weekend we will start and finish our first major renovation project at the space (still unnamed, make a suggestion if you have one). We're building a loft 8 feet tall, 20 feet long and 6 feet deep to create floor space above what will be the main equipment area housing the kiln and tablesaw. We will also build a staircase.

After I first blogged about our space, the outpour of interest was overwhelming. We were caught off guard! At the time, Paul, Jake and I didn't have anything specific to tell everyone because we were still working out the logistics of how and when to begin renovation, as well as make a calendar to start collecting dates for people interested in using the space for their projects and events.

We are making an interactive website for the space that will allow the public to claim open dates to the use the space. In the meantime, we encourage anyone interested in using the space later to help us fix it up now. Besides the loft construction, we will also be painting this weekend and could use your help. We will be at space almost every hour of the weekend, starting tonight after dinner. If you do decide to come, swing by on Saturday morning and bring a hammer if you want to help with the loft, or a mask and an extended paint roller if you want to paint. Either way, just show up and there will be something meaningful for you to do. Or, just come to hang out. That's cool, too.

I posted the address and links to maps on our temporary site universalspaceagency.com. From Manhattan, take the L to Bedford Ave. Use a map to get you from there. If you have any questions, or get lost, call me at 206-356-9237.

Also, it would be great if everyone brought snacks or drinks to keep our worker buffet stocked.

Thanks ahead of time!

PS. My dad is coming in from Fort Wayne to help, as is Paul's from Fort Lauderdale. They're both good guys to know. Come meet them, at least.

8 * 20 * 6 = 960

960 or 960Kiln , hows that for a name of your space?

If I'm free, what time saturday morning are you planning to start?

Pete, we'll be out there early -- probably no later than 9am. Come anytime.

Check that photo out I think it's more detailed than the Google Maps one. You can rotate it for different views too.

I love this idea. I'd totally come help, but I'm on "the great apartment search" until I leave for spring break.

How about "Moomba" or "Moomba Space"? It has the Aboriginal word meaning "Let's get together and have fun".

how about "Homeless guy Owes me Money" or "Hot Wing Xpress" Maybe a more direct "Free Pictures to look at!" or "Center for People who Don't Have Sex with Baby Animals". How bout someone tell me what that chick from Rollergirls name, ClownSnack, mean. I personally vote for the idea that it is lez related meaning that she goes down on chicks on the rag- kind of 1337 5747()5 hottie action. Like saying, "I don't care what is hanging outta there, Ima hit it!" The GF thinks otherwise and she's women's studies grad school so I'm confused

Hi, I'm Zach. I grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana and graduated from Wake Forest. After college, I moved to Manhattan to get serious about a company I ran with friends. We sold it to Barry Diller's InterActiveCorp in 2006. I just wrapped up with a project I co-founded called Vimeo and left CV to focus on being a twenty-five year old.

I have another blog called Copy and Taste, where I post about learning to cook.

I live in Brooklyn now.
