![]() Eric, Me, Ben, Jeff and Alex (Missing: Dave, Stefan, & Margot). This past weekend, my friends Jeff and Margot hosted me at Vail. I was lucky to have the chance to get out West one more time before the early spring makes snowboarding impossible until Decemeber. The bonus was that I met a bunch more of their pals, whom, after three days, I naturally adopted as my own. I enjoyed them as much I as the mountain (The mountain, by the way, is big and breathtaking and challenging, and ultimately, a total playground). I left Vail with a new understanding of two concepts: 1. Jumping (though I wasn't able to land a simple 180). 2. Après-ski, via Jeff. It's the tradition of finishing your last run at the patio of a slope-side bar, and relaxing with a beer and, to my recommendation, french fries cooked in truffle oil at the Larkspur Restaurant. Now, I hope I can squeeze one more snowy weekend out of Hunter (maybe Vermont?) so that I don't have to wait a year to get those 180s down. 6

Zach, You need to hit up Utah for some boarding/skiing, we can usually ski into May at certain resorts! 9:25 AM Jeff said... Zach, You need to spin with your shoulders to do the 180, your hips will follow through. In this clip it seems like you are simply twisting your hips. Spinning with the shoulders will set the whole body in motion and makes it much easier to spot your landing instead of your head and hips being in one direction and the rest of your upper body in another. 10:55 AM Brian Balfour said... Zach, I found it easier to get the 360 down before the 180 just because you don't have to launch or land on your goofy side. Good luck...make sure there is a nice pillow of powder to land in. 9:47 PM ben said... My god that's crazy. I just went to Whistler and learned of the Apres-ski as well, even though i've been skiing for 12 years now. That said, beware going all out on the apres-ski, it's a killer... 2:16 AM said... I was at VAIL on Saturday too!!! I wish i would have known! 1:39 PM Post a Comment |

![]() Hi, I'm Zach. I grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana and graduated from Wake Forest. After college, I moved to Manhattan to get serious about a company I ran with friends. We sold it to Barry Diller's InterActiveCorp in 2006. I just wrapped up with a project I co-founded called Vimeo and left CV to focus on being a twenty-five year old. I have another blog called Copy and Taste, where I post about learning to cook. I live in Brooklyn now.
