said... i remember when jason mcelwain the amazing autistic rochester high school basketball team manager's incredible scoring vignette hit you tube... 48 hours later all of the mainstream television news outlets covered it...like you tube provided some type of ratings indicator.... 10:25 AM meg said... Do you agree, Zach? 1:25 PM Zach said... I can't think of a public activity that's an exception. Can you? 1:34 PM Evan said... "like you tube provided some type of ratings indicator." It's the just mainstream wishing they were more like the cool kids. And, of course, once advertisers latch on it's already lost most of its je ne sais quoi. Stay gold Ponyboy. 1:38 PM meg said... The quote didn't use the word "public." 6:42 PM Zach said... Do you consider using branded products as being subjected to advertising? 9:54 PM meg said... Of course! I don't understand your point? 3:00 AM Zach said... I hadn't made a point. I was just clarifying, to get on the same page. So, yes, I think it's true: All significant behavior finds an advertiser. What's your point? 3:40 PM meg said... I think it's hogwash to the billionth degree! Times ten! 11:48 PM Zach said... What's your case? 12:26 AM meg said... Can't you think of many significant moments you've had, actions you've taken, etc. that were not publicized or advertised? It depends, of course, on your definition of "significant" (and I think we're reading the quote in different ways - you're probably assuming things about the vocabulary which I'm not). 2:33 AM Zach said... Name an example to start ... 8:13 AM meg said... No! If I name an example, I'll be contradicting myself (since your blog is, afterall, a decent advertiser). Basically, this quote is saying that all significant human behavior is public behavior. In my experience, private behavior can be quite significant. 4:42 PM Zach said... The quote isn't assuming all significant human behavior is public behavior. You're simply assuming that all advertising is public advertising. 6:07 PM meg said... Hm. What kind of advertising isn't public? Doesn't public mean "available to a community" (i.e. more than one person, probably more than two people)? And advertising, by definition, calls the attention of the public to a product, business, event, etc. Do you have an example of advertising that isn't public? P.S. If you're annoyed at the length of this comment string, we can certainly continue this convo by e-mail. 8:00 PM Zach said... I don't think either of us are listening to each other. I'll call you and we can get on the same page. I'm sure it's simply a difference in our interpretation. 8:31 PM said... not meaning to be-labor... i understand the quote more simply that significant human behavior (eating, drinking, being silly, acting silly, being loving, being kind), will, in the course of one's life be touched or connect with some type of advertising in some medium... 9:31 AM Post a Comment |
