There's an abundance of mangosteen growing wild in the Philippines, my dad says he used to eat them all the time! The Xango that Jessica is referring to is mangosteen juice, and I bought a bottle from my aunt; it IS pricey, and is said to have medicinal effects, though I'm not sure how true that is. I went to the Chinatown in Montreal just recently, and they were selling some in bags. I'm pretty sure that if you went to Chinatown in NYC, you'd be able to find them there at any of those open markets or asian grocery stores. :)

Note there are so many different kinds of Mangosteens... In Southern India they taste a bit like vanilla. The ones I had in Thailand where almost like a wisk of strawberry lemon... totally different. And in Malaysia they tasted like something else altogether, but sort of unpleasant.

Hi, I'm Zach. I grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana and graduated from Wake Forest. After college, I moved to Manhattan to get serious about a company I ran with friends. We sold it to Barry Diller's InterActiveCorp in 2006. I just wrapped up with a project I co-founded called Vimeo and left CV to focus on being a twenty-five year old.

I have another blog called Copy and Taste, where I post about learning to cook.

I live in Brooklyn now.
