Thursday afternoon notes

What's been going on with me lately:
1. Dance parties and rock shows
2. Germans visiting
3. My birthday
4. Bike-riding
5. Couple good movies
6. Winter trip planning

1. I've been dancing and partying. Notable moment: Getting roughed up and then escorted out by security at the Girl Talk show after I climbed on-stage to dance with Greg Gillis. It's cool, though, because he randomly stopped by our party later that night at the Universal Space Agency ... no big deal. BTW, that concert sponsored by Creative Commons, Wired, and Flavorpill was disappointedly overbranded. Hey -- who wants to go see Third Eye Blind play the Altoid concert series at the Apple Store with me this Friday? I'm done with sponsored events.

2. Germans everywhere. My best German pals, Fabian and Mareen, arrived within the same week of each other in late September. Fabian came to celebrate our birthdays (his 9/25, mine 9/26). Mareen is actually living here until December while pursuing photography experience. Check out her Flickr feed. Tonight, Fabian's parents, Lucia and Konrad, are arriving to spend a week with me. We've become close since I spent a Summer in Viersen in 2003.

3. I turned 24. Went to a cabin in the Catskills with some friends. Great friendship event.

4. While in the Catskills, Kunal, Paul and I took couple of killer rides through Woodstock and Phoenicia. It was tough. Sometimes we would ride 1 mile straight downhill, and all the way down I could only obsess over how much it would hurt to ride back up. We rode about 65 miles total over the two days. Here's a map of our first day route.

5. Saw Science of Sleep and The Lives of Others. I loved both.

6. This season, I would like to go snowboarding at Whistler and Jackson Hole, and visit my friends Jeff and Margot in Vail. Booking my weekends now. Need new board pants ... love the 2007 Volcom line.

Whistler is my all-time snowboarding destination. Maybe I'll get out there this season, as I'll have some time on my hands come December...

You should check out Copper Mountain if you get to have an extended stay in Colorado. Great terrain, great atmosphere, few tourists.

Woodstock at this time of the year...oh that sounds really lovely. That's some of my old stompin grounds; one year I spent in a cabin at the top of Lewis Hollow, on the side of Lookout Mountain.
I worked for a silkscreen artist in Bearsville so I travelled that route almost everyday.

Ths Scienc of Sleep is on my list.

i live 90 mins from whistler...it's amazing and unlike any east coast mountain. it's busy, but because it's huge you can separate yourself from the masses, and if you ride all the way to the top, it takes forever to ski/board back down. also, you have two mountains to choose from. tourists tend to pick whistler because they always hear about (ooh ahh) the great whistler, but blackcomb has a different feel, is not to be missed and is a favourite of locals. do it...go there this winter...

if you're gonna snowboard in canada, Fernie is your place. Whistler = overpriced and over ridden
At Fernie you don't have to pick your time to go because it simply has so much snow. But hey, I'm just sayin...

My mum and I had a great time in New York. Thanks for your companionship and help!
By the way: The building with the golden rooftop that we couldn't identify was the New York Life Building!

Hi, I'm Zach. I grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana and graduated from Wake Forest. After college, I moved to Manhattan to get serious about a company I ran with friends. We sold it to Barry Diller's InterActiveCorp in 2006. I just wrapped up with a project I co-founded called Vimeo and left CV to focus on being a twenty-five year old.

I have another blog called Copy and Taste, where I post about learning to cook.

I live in Brooklyn now.
