Thinking about snowboarding season ...
I like Hunter Mountain (trail map) mostly because it is so close. Blades offers an almost-daily bus service from two spots in Manhattan. The less-than-2-hour ride costs only $45, which includes your lift ticket, and a bagel & movie during the trip up.

I will try to go every other weekend. Always looking for others to join -- let me know.

Wikipedia's entry for Daylight Savings Time:
DST is not universally accepted; many localities do not observe it. Opponents claim that there is not enough benefit to justify needing to adjust clocks twice every year. The disruption in sleep patterns associated with setting clocks either forward or backward correlates with a spike in the number of severe auto accidents. Also, there is also a question whether the savings in lighting costs justifies the increase in summertime air conditioning costs. While most people use more sunlight under DST, most people also experience more heat, which prompts many people to turn on the air conditioner during the warmer afternoon hours. When air conditioning was not widely available, the change did save energy; however, air conditioning is much more widespread now than it was several decades ago.
This year my homestate Indiana voted to start celebrating Daylight Savings Time for the first time in its history, effective 2006.

Wired: Has Japan's top telephone company stumbled upon a remote control for humans?
An Associated Press reporter who weathered a demonstration of "galvanic vestibular stimulation," a technology developed by Nippon Telegraph & Telephone, says she was unnerved by the experience. A special headset sent a low-voltage jolt of electricity from behind her ears through her head, and a joystick-toting researcher controlled the current's path -- and the reporter's. "I felt a mysterious, irresistible urge to start walking to the right whenever the researcher turned the switch to the right," she said. NTT says it might incorporate the technology, which works because electricity affects the nerves in the ear that help humans maintain their balance, into video games or amusement park rides.

Has anyone figured out inform.com? I haven't had the time, nor the IE browser, required to use it -- but the concept seems worthy.

Please share your experiences.

Anyone else at the Thalia Theatre last night to see Sufjan Stevens play with a string ensemble would agree that we witnessed something great.

I seek a recording of the show. Give me a heads-up if you know anything.

AirTroductions is a dating service that connects people who coincidentally plan to take the same flight.

"Oh, you're excited about researching Indiana's settlement history too? We should totally sit next to each other on our flight to Reykjavik!"

I am a propenent of this concept -- but I am not sure it will work in this form, where you have to arrange the rendez-vous yourself. Instead, what if airlines prescreened you during check-in and offered you the opportunity to sit next to people who matched your interests or desires? Wouldn't you pay $20 more to share a flight with someone you were attacted to? Forget satellite television at every seat -- I would settle for a lovely girl accompanied with an intriguing conversation.

I am spending my Sunday celebrating Oktoberfest!
